The proximity to the United States along with its strong ties to the United Kingdom gives Canada a unique publishing history in regard to Tolkien’s works. His books were and still are imported from the U.K. but in the past Canadian publishing houses would sometimes print domestically. This led to the production of many unique publications sold only within the country. Today however, HarperCollins manages both U.K. and Canadian publications with Canadian sales being based on the distribution of editions from the U.K. Most of the more recent Canadian editions are therefore nearly identical to their British counterparts, yet the Tolkien completist may still wish to know of the trivial differences. This section gives entries only for books that were printed in Canada or manufactured specifically for the Canadian market. |
