In use until at least the 71st Printing and is available new.

The color of the binding (light green at first) was changed to blue for the 52nd Printing and again to dark green for the 61st Printing. With the first change, the dark blue lettering on the boards was altered to silver. The 55th Printing has also been seen bound in black paper over boards (as well as blue paper and cloth).

The runes bordering the dust-jacket read: ‘THE HOBBIT OR THERE AND BACK AGAIN BEING THE RECORD OF A YEARS JOURNEY MADE BY BILBO BAGGINS OF HOBBITON COMPILED FROM HIS MEMOIRS BY J.R.R. TOLKIEN AND PUBLISHED BY HOUGHTON MIFFLIN AND CO’.
