For the 20th Printing, a barcode was added to the dust-jacket’s back cover. Further changes were made to the dust-jacket for the 21st Printing (April, 1991) including the addition of the Tolkien monogram at the top of the spine.
The runes on the front cover of the dust-jacket read (in order of top, bottom, right side, left side): ‘ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL, ONE RING TO FIND THEM, ONE RING TO BRING THEM ALL AND, IN THE DARKNESS BIND THEM’.
