Copies of a variety of printings (at first also including covers from the 2001-2003 ‘Film Tie-In’ Editions) were issued in the Variant 1 set. The first set to be released with the 2001 Del Rey Hobbit and 2007 Del Rey Edition printings of The Lord of the Rings (as pictured) are the printings stated above under Variant 1. Variant 2 included only the printings stated above.
A second state slipcase was issued and is identical in all respects to the first state aside from the price and the corresponding barcode number on its base. The earliest printings seen in it were the 155th, 146th, 141st, and 141st Printings respectively.
