At least nineteen printings issued and is available new.
Sometime between the 6th and 10th Printings the red cloth and black paper binding was changed to black paper over boards.
Also issued as a Book Club Edition (November, 2003). This can be distinguished from the trade edition by the lack of a price on the dust-jacket’s front flap, the lack of a number line on the copyright page and the presence of the Science Fiction Book Club number (19216) on the dust-jacket’s back cover.
The Map of the West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age is printed across the back of the front free endpaper and the facing page. Later printings have been seen with the left-hand portion of the map missing.
